I wish I could just hold you tight
You tower high, fluffy, round, lead gray
On azure. Unreachable, imposing
So wondrous, and on the righthand side
Lies a plastic bath slipper, dark-blue
So alone I want to comfort it.
I wish I could just hold you tight
Do not pick, signs on wooden poles warn
The Poppies behind radiate where
The Evening Primrose ventures near
The lefthand curb. And to me, too.
I wish I could just hold you tight
After dark the letters will be there
Colours invisible, spray-painted “FAN”
No one who can read it then
Or think of it. A lonely fest.
I wish I could just hold you tight
“Day without Night” the poster writes
Why did I think to start, to chat
That early morning. Have I been mad?
Once more. Whatever did I think?
I wish I could just hold you tight
Or start with someone closer by
Love, first fiery red, now like that rose
Pale orange hits the dark green leaves.
What did I look for in the Net?
Online love? Had I not enough of that?
I wish I could just hold you tight
Like a soft fig ripened in the sun
The woman's garden, she can reach.
So not how it is between you and me
Now I know you, but was I a goose
To hope that I could hold you tight.
